"This group was founded to encourage and foster the cultivation of the gerbera and to develop appreciation of the one of the world’s most beautiful flowers!"
The Gerbera Research Group Inc is a friendly informal club that meets in Hamersley, in the Northern Suburbs of Perth, Western Australia once a month. As well as monthly meetings we have a Show in May every year and have displays and sales of plants at North Beach Shopping Centre and we join the Orchid Societies at their fairs. At these shows, shopping centres and fairs we sell plants grown by our members which are sun hardened and ideal for Perth conditions.
The Gerbera Research Group was first founded 34 years ago. On the 6th April 1986 a public meeting was held at a founding member’s home in Dianella and the group was established with forty members. By 1992 membership reached 142. In the early days meetings were held at members’ homes but as numbers increased they needed a hall to hold monthly meetings in. First it was at Robertsbridge Reserve Rooms in Nollamara. Then the Hamersley Community Hall. Since 1989 we have had a permanent meeting place at The Scout Hall in Hamersley.
Many of the founding members are still members and have an extensive knowledge in the growing and propagation of gerberas. They have passed this knowledge on to newer members over the years. So current members are a mix of specialists, learners or those that just love gerberas and come along to meetings for the social aspect as we are a friendly bunch.
Would you like to become a member to extend your knowledge of gerberas? If so please contact us or come along to a meeting.
